Holy Baptism

Steps for Holy Baptism

For adults 18 years and older, enroll in OCIA.

For children 7 to 17 years of age, enroll them in Hook & Net by calling the parish office.

For infants and children under the age of 7:

  1. Baptisms are celebrated as a rule on the fourth Saturday of every month immediately after the 4:30pm Mass. They are only celebrated in the Ordinary Form of the Rite for the Sacrament of Baptism. Upon request, the rite may be celebrated in Latin.

  2. Parents & godparents must attend a Baptismal preparation class. The parish hosts these on the second Saturday of January, March, May, July, September, and November. The class runs from 10am to noon. Please call the parish office to register for the class. Parents & godparents who have attended a past course will enter into discernment with the parish around the necessity of attending the class. The pastor has the final decision on this.

  3. All canonical paperwork, including a copy of your child's birth certificate must be complete and turned in 2 weeks prior to the celebration of Holy Baptism.

  4. You are encouraged to choose two godparents (only one godfather and one godmother). Godparents stand as a representative of the Catholic Church at Baptism and provide parents with support in raising their children in the Catholic faith. Those with only one godparent are permitted to choose a non-Catholic Christian to serve as a Christian witness. According to canon law, godparents, without exception, must be:

  • over 16 years old

  • not the parents of the person to be baptized

  • have received Baptism, Confirmation, and the Eucharist.
