The Catholic Funeral Liturgy is a Celebration of the Paschal Mystery of Jesus Christ's Death, Burrial, and Resurrection as the Church commends the soul of decased back to God, offering prayers of thanksgiving, atonement, and adoration to the Father of Our Lord Jesus Christ while offering consolation and the hope of the eternal life of heaven to family and friends.

Assumption Funeral Guidelines:
The following are guidelines for planning the Mass for your loved one here at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Parish:
-
Funerals can only be scheduled on available on Wednesdays, Thursdays, or Fridays. The Mass is celebrated at 10 AM. A rosary may be recited in the church half an hour beforehand.
-
The Scripture readings and music can only be selected from our list of approved readings and hymns. We do not play pre-recorded music in the church.
-
A family member or friend who is trained at their parish as a lector may read for the Funeral Mass. Otherwise the parish will provide a reader.
-
Only Assumption Parish musicians can be used.
-
There is a fee to cover the musicians and funeral coordinator. Call the parish office for details. This must be paid before the Funeral Mass. An additional financial gift to the church is always welcomed.
-
One member or friend of the family may deliver a brief eulogy, no more than five minutes in length, before the start of the Mass. Criteria for the eulogy include the likelihood of maintaining composure at this emotional time, the content cannot be offensive, racist, lewd, or inappropriate for being delivered in a sacred space. The celebrant will request to review the content beforehand (OCF 170). It may be the case that the eulogy itself should be incorporated into the vigil service or at the graveside.
