Funeral Mass

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

We are blessed to pray and give thanks with you for the gift of your loved one’s life and through the rites and prayers of Holy Mother Church to entrust them back to God our merciful Father by offering the Church’s Solemn Celebration of the Eucharisitc Sacrifice. The Catholic Liturgy is the Memorial of Christ’s Death and Resurrection. And it is through remembering what Our Lord Jesus Christ has done for us, that we celebrate the gift of Eternal Life that is promised to those that have been baptized into Christ Jesus and who die in the Lord’s friendship.

Assumption Funeral Guidelines

The following are guidelines for planning the Requiem Funeral Mass for your loved one here at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church:

  1. Funerals can only be scheduled on Tuesdays & Fridays. A rosary and eulogy may be recited in the church 30 minutes before the Funeral Mass, which is celebrated at 11am. A vigil can be celebrated at the mortuary chapel of the funeral home.

  2. The Scripture readings and music can only be selected from our list of approved readings and hymns. We do not play pre-recorded music in the church. The parish will provide a reader for the liturgy.

  3. You may only use Assumption Parish musicians.

  4. The cost for a funeral is $400  to pay the musicians. This must be paid before the start of the Funeral Mass. An additional gift to the church is always welcome.

  5. A eulogy of no more than 10 minutes may be delivered before the start of the Funeral Mass. The eulogy must be written out and approved by the priest beforehand, and may not include any profanities or sentiments contrary to the Catholic faith.

  6. Family members and friends should be told beforehand that reception of Holy Communion is reserved to practicing Catholics, who go to Sunday Mass and frequent the Sacrament of Confession as needed. Catholics who need Confession beforehand are urged to go to Confession beforehand so they can properly receive Holy Communion. Non-Catholics are invited to stay in their pews during Holy Communion and to pray for the repose of the soul of the deceased.
