Celebration of holy matrimony

Be attentive to our prayers, O Lord,
and in your kindness
pour out your grace on these your servants,
that, coming together before your altar,
they may be confirmed in love for one another.

Steps for Getting Married at assumption parish:

1.EMAIL THE PARISH DEACON(9 months before)

Email Deacon Derrick Johnson dcnderrick@assumptiondenver.org as soon as you get engaged!   It is important to meet with him even before setting a wedding date.

2. INITIAL MEETING (8 months before)

At this meeting, you’ll learn about the preparation process for the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony, begin the necessary paperwork for your marriage file, and set your tentative wedding date. The initial meetings with the Deacon Derrick will ensure that there is nothing standing in the way of a wedding in the Church. These initial meetings also begin the process of creating a marriage file, which is a record of everything that was done during marriage preparation.

3. FOCCUS Inventory (7 months before)

The FOCCUS Inventory provides you with a personalized profile of your relationship. Deacon Derrick will set up your inventory session and, upon completion, the follow-up sessions needed to review your results. These sessions aim to facilitate communication between you and your future spouse.

4. Entrust Marriage Prep Retreat (7 months before)

Thi retreat will be comprised of relevant marriage topics such as:

    • a basic proclamation of the kyrgma as it relates to Holy Matrimony

    • the Catholic household as the Domestic Church

    • understanding the theology and rite of Marriage

    • understanding sexuality as a gift

Those attending the retreat must arrive to Most Precious Blood Catholic Church (3959 E. Iliff Ave., Denver, CO 80210)  at 4:30PM but no later than 5PM the Friday night of the retreat.  While we understand most retreatants have jobs we also know that many are able to take time off for wedding preparations. We see this retreat as a paramount preparation for a Catholic wedding and ask that couples make reasonable sacrifices to attend the retreat starting Friday at 5PM. Travel preparations should also be pre-factored to include the phenomenon of Friday traffic in Denver.

Retreat Dates:

    • April 25-26, 2025

    • October 2025 TBA

Cost is $240 for the couple.

5. Natural Family Planning (5 months before)

NFP respects the love-giving and life-giving natures of marriage, and enriches the bond between husband and wife. This course gives couples a natural approach to understanding the cycles of fertility and infertility. Course listings found here.

6. Final Meeting (2 months before)

This meeting will review your previous preparation, complete all of your paperwork, and plan your wedding liturgy. You’re getting close to celebrating this beautiful Sacrament!

Please note there is a $500 required stipend for the wedding coordinator and a $500 stipend for the musicians. A financial gift to the parish and the clergy is encouraged.

*Note: If you are getting married outside the Archdiocese of Denver, then the completed marriage file will have to be submitted by the parish who is preparing you to the Archdiocese of Denver one month prior to the wedding date (two months prior for a wedding outside the United States). The Archdiocese of Denver will review the marriage file to ensure it is complete and will forward the file to the place of the wedding.

7. Sacrament of Penance (1 week before)

Catholics preparing for the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony  are encouraged to receive the Sacrament of Confession.  Penance and the Eucharist are invaluable sources of grace and healing. Celebrate this sacrament with your spouse-to-be!
